Why Go

The Experience
Walking in feels more like stepping into a friend's garage than a chain retailer. The retail wall carries the practical stuff divers actually forget at home - defog, reef-safe sunscreen, dive computers, snorkels, fins, Golden Rock-branded tees and hoodies - alongside a rotating rack of PADI training materials. Behind the counter, owner-operators who have been running the shop since 1994 will happily talk you through the 30-plus moored sites in the marine park, sketch out the lava flows and wreck coordinates on a scrap of paper, and steer you toward whichever reef is fishiest that morning. Gear rental (BCDs, regs, wetsuits, lights, computers) is handled here too, so most visitors treat it as a one-stop shop: browse, rent, book a boat, and be underwater within the hour.
What to Try
Pick up a Golden Rock Dive Center logo tee or hoodie - they're the closest thing Statia has to a souvenir shirt that locals actually wear. Grab a copy of the STENAPA marine park map and a fresh bottle of reef-safe sunscreen (mandatory in the reserve). If you're a certified diver, ask about a 'shop-and-splash' package that bundles a two-tank boat dive with any gear rental you need. Aspiring divers should look at the Discover Scuba half-day - it's the cheapest way to see the Blue Bead site without a full certification.

The shop is small and doesn't keep obscure spare parts on hand, so if you dive with a niche regulator or an older computer, email info@goldenrockdive.com a few days before you arrive - they'll usually stash the o-rings or batteries you need behind the counter. Also: card readers on Statia are famously moody, so bring some cash for smaller purchases and tips.
