Flossie's Cottage

A century-old Saban cottage with a Jacuzzi under the stars

Why Go

Sleep inside a piece of Saban history — a hundred-year-old timber cottage with red roof, green shutters, and its own private Jacuzzi deck framed by Mt. Scenery.

The Experience

Tucked into Windwardside and looked after by the Juliana's Hotel team just down the lane, Flossie's is the kind of place that quietly rearranges your idea of a Caribbean stay. There is no glass-walled resort lobby, no swim-up bar — just a freestanding traditional cottage, roughly a century old, with hardwood floors that creak in the right way, an old stone-and-brick cooking hearth repurposed as a bedroom mantle, and framed sepia photos of Saba as it used to be. The living-dining room opens through French doors onto a side porch where the mountain looms so close you feel you could reach out and touch the cloud that's caught on its shoulder. Two bedrooms (a queen plus twins that lock together into a king) make it work for a couple who wants space or a small family of four. The showstopper waits out back: a six-person Jacuzzi on a private deck built for late soaks after a hike, with just the tree frogs and the trade winds for company. Breakfast is delivered daily, the maid tidies while you're out, and you can walk to dinner, dive shops and the village bakery in minutes.

What to Try

Book the cottage for at least three nights so you have time to actually live in it: cook one dinner in the fully equipped kitchen with produce from the village shops, spend a slow morning on the porch with the delivered breakfast, and save one evening for a long Jacuzzi soak after climbing Mt. Scenery. Ask the Juliana's team about arranging a private in-cottage dinner or a bespoke island tour — being part of a small family-run hotel means you get concierge touches without leaving your own front door.

Insider Tip

There's no air conditioning — and you genuinely won't need it. Flossie's sits high enough in Windwardside that the trade winds do the work; open the shutters at dusk, switch on the ceiling fans, and the cottage cools itself. Pack a light layer for evenings instead. Also worth knowing: WiFi is capped at one device per person, so if you're a remote-work couple, plan your Zoom calls in shifts.

The Practical Stuff

Address: Windwardside, Saba, Caribbean Netherlands. Managed by Juliana's Hotel (+599 416 2269). Sleeps up to 4 in two bedrooms with one shower bathroom. Daily breakfast and maid service included; fully equipped kitchen, satellite TV, DVD player, WiFi (one device per guest), ceiling fans, Tommy Bahama toiletries and pool towels provided. No air conditioning. Private six-person Jacuzzi on rear deck. Reachable via Saba's small airport (SAB) or the ferry from St. Maarten, followed by a short taxi up the switchbacks to Windwardside village.

Pair It With

  • Angelina's Saba By OwAiChie — Walkable village restaurant for a laid-back dinner after a Jacuzzi soak — a good match for the cottage's slow, local rhythm.
  • Amonhana Guide — Another Windwardside dining option within an easy stroll, ideal for a night you'd rather not cook in Flossie's kitchen.
  • Barney's Ground Guide — An easy nearby outdoor spot to explore in the morning before returning to the cottage porch for coffee and mountain views.
  • Battery Corre Corre Guide — A short historic-site excursion that pairs naturally with a stay in a 100-year-old cottage — same era, same island story.
