St Maarten-St Martin has no single nightlife strip. It has four or five pockets strung along twenty minutes of coast road, each with its own hour and its own crowd, so the choice you are really making is where, not what.

Local tip. Opening at 4pm and closing at 3am, it works as both the first stop and the last one. Walk in from the Welfare Road hotels rather than hunting for parking.
Worth knowing. It is loud and busy at peak, and it is a beachfront bar and grill rather than a cocktail room - go to Ratafia if the drink itself is the point.
2. The Red Piano SXM — Best for live music seven nights
The one bar on the island with live piano every single night, which is exactly why it works as a default: turn up at 9pm on a Tuesday and something is happening. Sing-alongs, a long cocktail list and a genuine mix of residents and visitors, a few minutes from the Simpson Bay hotels.
Local tip. It fills from about 10pm. Come at 8 or 9 if you want a seat near the piano rather than a spot at the back.
Worth knowing. It is a piano bar, not a dance floor - the room is built around the music, and the volume goes with it.
3. Ratafia — Best for the best cocktails
A top-floor cocktail room in Cupecoy with a real bar programme behind it - tiki drinks, classics and house builds, alongside cigars, charcuterie and caviar if the evening is heading that way. The sea view does half the work and the mixing does the rest.
Local tip. Margarita Mondays and Tiki Tuesdays are the value nights; Decadance After Dark on Saturdays is when the DJs come in.
Worth knowing. Doors are 5:30pm on weeknights and considerably later on Saturdays, and it is closed Sundays. This is the priciest bar on the list.
