Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport
The shortest commercial runway in the world
Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport (SAB) sits on a shelf of flat ground at Flat Point, on an island that has almost none. Its runway is about 400 metres — the shortest in commercial service anywhere — with the sea at both ends. Only small aircraft and specially certified crews operate here.
Getting here
Almost everyone arrives on a short scheduled hop from St Maarten (SXM), a flight of roughly fifteen minutes. There is also a ferry from St Maarten, which is the usual alternative when weather closes the airport.
What to expect
The approach is famous and the landing is short and firm — this is normal here, not a problem. Baggage allowances on small aircraft are tighter than on the flight that brought you to the region, so check yours before you fly.
