Before the yachts wake up and the boutiques unlock, there's a small line forming at Choisy — captains grabbing baguettes for the charter guests, villa concierges collecting pastry boxes, and locals ordering coffee in shorthand. It's the least glamorous, most beloved address in Gustavia.
The Experience
Choisy is a proper French boulangerie transplanted straight into the Caribbean — glass cases stacked with viennoiseries, a bread wall that empties by mid-morning, and the ambient hum of an espresso machine over island French chatter. The Gustavia shop is compact but has room to sit with a coffee and watch the port wake up, plus free Wi-Fi if you're stalling before a boat trip. Service moves fast and friendly; the pastry team clearly knows what they're doing (the ingredients are French-flour, artisan-made). It's a rare sub-$10 pit stop on an island where everything else has a zero added, and that's a big part of why everyone — crew, locals, honeymooners with sandy feet — ends up here at some point in their day.
What to Try
The vanilla eclair gets the loudest praise (reviewers routinely rank it as good as anything they've had in Paris). Beyond that: a warm butter croissant, a fresh baguette to take to the beach, one of the pre-made jambon-beurre or chicken sandwiches for a Colombier hike or Colombier-boat picnic, and — if it's in the case — the coconut-chocolate mousse torte or carrot cake. Add an espresso or a cold pressed juice.

Go early. Choisy shuts around 1 PM and the best pastries (especially the eclairs and specific loaves) sell out well before that — locals aim for a 7-9 AM window. If you're provisioning a boat day, call ahead the night before to reserve a sandwich order; the counter can get slammed and pre-orders skip the queue. There's a second Choisy in Lorient that opens even earlier and is usually calmer if the Gustavia line looks brutal.
