Bonito Saint Barth

Ceviche, cocktails, and a killer harbor view in the heart of Gustavia.

Why Go

Perched above Gustavia harbor with all-white sofas, open sides catching the trade winds, and a resident DJ that turns dinner into a slow-building party, Bonito has been St Barth's go-to "see-and-be-seen" table since 2009 — and the Peruvian-leaning kitchen still earns the crowd.

The Experience

Climb the steps off Rue Lubin Brin and the room opens onto a breezy terrace framed by billowing curtains, with the yacht masts of Gustavia twinkling below. Chef-owner Laurent Cantineaux's French Pan-American menu leans hard on the sea, showcased at a dedicated ceviche bar where the crudos are cut to order. Service is polished, the soundtrack builds from lounge to something closer to a club as the night wears on, and by 10pm the bar area is standing-room-only with a St Barth crowd of yachties, regulars, and honeymooners. It's dinner as theater — dress the part.

What to Try

Start with the Peruvian classics: the ceviche flight and a tiradito or two are what Bonito is known for, and the raw bar is arguably the best on the island. From the mains, the spiny lobster risotto is the signature splurge, and the dry-aged beef rib eye is built to share. Don't skip the cocktails — the pisco sour and the smoked mezcal drinks are as much a part of the experience as the food.

Insider Tip

Book the earlier seating (7:30–8pm) if you actually want to hear your table talk and catch the last light over the harbor; the room tilts toward late-night lounge energy after 9:30. Ask specifically for a terrace-edge two-top when you reserve — those are the tables with the postcard view, and they're not assigned by default. A jacket isn't required but the room dresses up: think resort-chic, not flip-flops.

The Practical Stuff

Rue Lubin Brin, Gustavia 97133. Dinner only, roughly 7pm onward, typically Monday–Saturday and closed in the low-season shoulder (Sept–mid-Oct); confirm dates directly before your trip. Reservations are essential in high season and should be made weeks ahead over Christmas/New Year and February. Expect a high-end price point (mains typically €50+, ceviches €30+). Cards accepted, valet-adjacent street parking on the harbor road.

Pair It With

  • Shell Beach Guide — A five-minute walk from Bonito, this pebble-and-sand cove is the classic pre-dinner sunset stop — grab a rosé at Shellona or Do Brazil and stroll up to your reservation.
  • Le Select Guide — Gustavia's legendary open-air bar and Jimmy Buffett's original "Cheeseburger in Paradise" — a scruffy, no-reservations warm-up drink that plays perfectly against Bonito's polish.
  • Absolute Hot Yoga Guide — Also in Gustavia; book a morning class to earn back the ceviche-and-cocktail evening before hitting the beach.
  • Gustavia Harbor stroll — Wander the quay after dinner to ogle the megayachts — it's the natural nightcap and puts the restaurant's front-row view into context.
