Saba Snack Gourmet
The Bottom's little kitchen where island comfort food goes gourmet.
Why Go
Tucked into The Bottom, this unassuming snack spot has quietly become one of Saba's most-loved kitchens — the kind of place where the owner remembers your order and the coconut shrimp arrives still crackling from the pan.
The Experience
Walk in off the sun-baked lane and the air conditioning hits like a small blessing. It's a compact, spotless room with a handful of tables, a friendly hum from the open kitchen, and staff who greet regulars and first-timers with the same easy warmth. The menu reads like a Caribbean-meets-everything-you-crave list — burgers stacked tall, pasta, Mexican plates, and fresh seafood pulled together with a lot more care than the 'snack' in the name suggests. Locals treat it as their lunch canteen; visitors quickly figure out it's just as good for a quiet dinner before the island shuts down for the night.
What to Try
The creamy coconut shrimp is the sleeper hit — plump shrimp in a rich, faintly sweet coconut sauce that people talk about long after they've left the island. The grouper with lemon sauce is the other headliner, using whatever came off the boat freshest. Start with the shrimp ceviche (bright, generous, punchy with lime), and don't skip the sweet potato fries on the side — they're the best on Saba.
Insider Tip
They're closed Wednesdays and shut the kitchen briefly between 3 and 4 PM, so time your visit around that split service. Dinner is quieter than lunch, and since seating is limited, a quick call to +599 416 2399 to hold a table (or pre-order takeaway) is the move — especially if the cruise-ship day-trippers are around. Follow @sabasnack on Instagram for daily specials that don't make the printed menu.
The Practical Stuff
Located at JQG3+4M9 in The Bottom, an easy walk from the village center. Open daily 11 AM–8 PM (with a short break mid-afternoon), closed Wednesdays.
