Why Go
After a day scaling Mount Scenery or surfacing from a dive on the Saba Bank, everyone eventually filters down the switchbacks to Fort Bay — and Ocean Club is where they land. It's the harbor's open-air kitchen, dive-boat canteen, and weekend party all rolled into one, right where the Caribbean laps the concrete pier.
The Experience
Ocean Club sits waterfront at Fort Bay, the tiny working harbor on Saba's southwestern flank and one of the very few spots on this cliff-edged island where you can eat with the sea essentially at your feet. The vibe is exactly what the owners call 'barefoot chic' — casual enough for damp dive suits and hiking boots, polished enough that you'll happily linger over cocktails as the sun drops behind the volcanic ridges. Lunch service kicks off around 11:30, dinners stretch long into the evening, and on Fridays the terrace turns into Saba's de facto dance floor with live music running until 2 AM. Because it's one of the only places on the island that stays open late, you'll find dive-shop crews, Saba University medical students, off-duty harbor staff and visiting yachties all mingling at the bar — a cross-section of island life you won't get anywhere else.
What to Try
Order the grilled Caribbean jerk chicken — properly smoky, well-spiced, and served the Saban way with rice and beans. The fresh-catch tropical ceviche depends entirely on what came off the boats that morning, so ask what the kitchen landed; wahoo and mahi are common when the fleet has been out. Wash it down with a local rum punch or a cold Amstel Bright, and if it's a Friday, stay for the live band and let the bartender pick your second round.
Insider Tip
Fort Bay sits at the bottom of Saba's one and only road down from The Bottom, and taxis stop running early — arrange your ride back up the switchbacks before you sit down, or budget for the walk (steep, unlit and definitely not advisable after a couple of rum punches). If you're on a dive day, the boats tie up right in front of the restaurant, so you can practically step off the tank rack and onto a barstool.
