Hideaway Bar & Grill
Windwardside's tucked-away hangout for lionfish sandwiches, cold beers, and local chatter.
Why Go
Slip through Breadline Plaza and around the back and you'll find the spot Sabans quietly claim as their own — an unpretentious open-air bar and grill where the fish was swimming that morning and the bartender already knows your order by round two.
The Experience
The Hideaway earns its name honestly: it's set behind the shops of Breadline Plaza in the heart of Windwardside, so you have to want to find it. Once you do, the vibe is easy and unforced — a mix of dive-boat crews still in flip-flops, med-school students on a study break, and locals catching up over Caribs. The dining room is casual and covered, service is warm and quick, and prices feel refreshingly grounded for an island where everything arrives by boat or the tiny STOL runway. Lunch is the sweet spot for a first visit; dinner leans a touch more relaxed once the day-trippers have gone.
What to Try
Lead with the lionfish sandwich — the invasive species is speared by Saba's own fishermen, so eating it is genuinely good for the reef. The lobster sandwich (also locally caught) is the other signature. For something heartier, the rib-eye and the shrimp pasta are reliable, and the Caribbean-American crossover menu means picky eaters get burgers and wings while adventurers get the day's fresh catch. Wash it down during weekday happy hour (3–5 pm) when drinks are at their friendliest.
Insider Tip
Aim for the tail end of lunch or the start of happy hour on a weekday — you'll catch the shift-change crowd of dive instructors and locals rolling in, which is when the place stops being a restaurant and starts being a scene. And skip it on Sunday: they're closed, and half of Windwardside is closed with them.
