Tucked between the botanical garden and the T-shop on Windwardside's Lambee Hassell Road, Colibri Cafe is the leafy little pocket where Saba slows down — a deck strung between ferns and the far-off hush of a waterfall, where hikers drop their packs, order something cold, and stay longer than they meant to.
The Experience
You reach Colibri by wandering past gingerbread cottages and slipping down toward the greenery, and suddenly the village noise disappears. The deck spills into the rainforest, so your view is basically curated jungle: heliconia, hummingbirds (colibri, of course), and a slice of botanical garden below. Inside is small and stylish in that easy Caribbean-meets-Dutch way — reclaimed wood, hand-lettered chalkboard, a barista who actually cares about the pour. It swings from mellow morning cafe to buzzy sundowner spot as the day goes on. Mornings are quiet and hiker-friendly (fuel up before Mt. Scenery); afternoons bring a mix of divers back from the boat, trail-dusty explorers, and locals catching up over an iced coffee; by Friday and Saturday night the fairy lights come on, the cocktail list takes over, and the deck becomes one of Windwardside's most convivial hangouts.
What to Try
Start with a fresh tropical fruit smoothie — passion fruit or mango, blended thick — or a proper espresso drink if you've just rolled off the morning ferry. Come afternoon, switch to a craft cocktail: their rum builds lean on Caribbean staples with fresh herbs and citrus, and the draft beer is famously the best-poured pint on the island after a long hike. Snacks lean small-plates and shareable, and the herbal teas are worth ordering just to see what shows up from local gardens.
Insider Tip
Aim for Friday or Saturday around sunset — the deck fills with a friendly mix of Sabans and dive-shop crews, and it's the one time the cafe stays open until 11pm, so you can nurse a second cocktail without watching the staff sweep around you. Sunday it's closed, so plan accordingly. And if you're headed up Mt. Scenery, duck into the neighboring T-shop first for trail intel, then circle back here for the reward pint.
