Why Go
Technically it's on St. Kitts, but Reggae Beach has been the unofficial 'other side' of Nevis for decades ΓÇö a lopsided timber shack on Cockleshell Bay where the reggae never really stops, the ribs come with a rum sauce, and Nevis Peak looms over your shoulder like it's the one buying the next round.
The Experience
You step off the boat, kick off your sandals, and the sand is already warm underfoot. A steel-drum-thick soundtrack drifts out from an open-sided bar strung with buoys, flags and license plates from every corner of the Caribbean. Lounge chairs fan out under sea-grape trees; kids and a resident dog or two chase each other into the pale shallows. Order at the wooden bar, then drift back to a plastic table where the breeze does the air-conditioning. Lunch is a two-hour affair by design ΓÇö nobody's rushing you back to the pier. By late afternoon on Sundays the live band sets up and half the room ends up dancing barefoot between the tables.
What to Try
The grilled lobster and whole snapper are the headliners ΓÇö pulled straight off the beach grill and served with rice, peas and a side of festival. Coconut shrimp and conch fritters are the classic starters to share over a Killer Bee (their rum-punch-of-the-house, deceptively strong). Ribs come honey-mustard glazed and fall off the bone. Save room for banana bread pudding with warm rum sauce. If you're here on a Friday, the bonfire dinner buffet ΓÇö pick two or three proteins, unlimited sides ΓÇö is the best-value meal on either island.
Insider Tip
Book the water taxi round-trip before you leave Nevis ΓÇö Reggae Beach doesn't run walk-up returns, and the last pickup window closes at 6 PM. From Oualie Beach it's a six-minute crossing; from the Four Seasons pier about ten. Ask your captain to time you for the Sunday 1 PM live band and you'll be back on Nevis by sunset, sandy and smug.

Location: Cockleshell Bay (Turtle Beach), southeast tip of St. Kitts, directly across The Narrows from Nevis. Getting there: pre-booked water taxi from Oualie Beach (~6 min) or Four Seasons pier (~10ΓÇô15 min), operating roughly 6 AMΓÇô6 PM. Hours: lunch and afternoons daily; Friday bonfire dinners and Sunday live-music sessions run late. Payment: cards and USD/EC accepted. Bring: swimsuit, cash for tips and lounger rentals, reef-safe sunscreen. Facilities: restrooms, showers, changing rooms, free loungers with a food/drink order, snorkel-gear and volleyball rentals on the sand.
