The Experience
Lion Rock sits on the powder-soft crescent of Cockleshell Beach on St. Kitts' Southeast Peninsula ΓÇö a quick water-taxi hop from Oualie Beach on Nevis and one of the most Nevis-facing views you'll find. The famous Lion Punch ΓÇö a house rum punch potent enough to have its own fan club ΓÇö is non-negotiable; order one, then pace yourself. From the grill, go for the just-off-the-boat mahi or snapper served whole with rice and peas and plantain, or the jerk chicken slathered in Lion Rock's own BBQ sauce (bottled on-site since 2009 and worth taking home). Conch fritters and coconut shrimp are the sharing plates that keep appearing. Wash it all down with a cold Carib or a coconut hacked open at the bar.

From Nevis, skip the long drive around and take a water taxi from Oualie or Cades Bay straight to Cockleshell ΓÇö most Nevis captains will drop you at Lion Rock's dock and pick you up at a set time. Arrive before noon on cruise-ship days to snag a shaded lounger, and ask for your Lion Punch "strong" if you want the version the locals drink. Cash (US or EC) still moves faster than card.
