Top 4 Hotels With a View in St Maarten-St Martin

Four St Maarten–St Martin stays chosen for the view alone — Cupecoy cliff sunsets, hillside terraces above Simpson Bay, Great Bay's boardwalk and a quiet French-side villa.

St Maarten-St Martin Top 4 Accommodation

On this half-Dutch, half-French island the view you wake to depends almost entirely on which coast you choose. The candidates cluster in three zones: Philadelphia's Great Bay — sorry, Philipsburg — where beachfront hotels line the boardwalk facing the cruise anchorage; the Cupecoy bluffs at the island's south-western tip, where buildings stand directly above limestone cliffs; and the hillsides around Koolbaai, which look down over Simpson Bay and its lagoon. A handful of villas and apartments on the quieter French side round out the field.

The real decision is orientation. West-facing Cupecoy gets the island's most dependable sunsets; Great Bay rooms trade sunset for front-row harbour theatre, with ships arriving below Fort Amsterdam's headland. Hillside places in Koolbaai sit above the airport approach and lagoon, so you watch aircraft and yacht traffic rather than surf. Prices track the same split — cliff-top Cupecoy costs more than a boardwalk double in town.

Book ahead for December to April, when the island fills; in the September lull some smaller properties scale back. Wherever you stay, insist on a room stated as sea-facing — several of these buildings also have cheaper rooms that look inland.

The four picks below deliberately span all three zones plus the French side, so there is an outlook here whichever half of the island you plan to explore.

1. The Cliff

Perched on the Cupecoy bluffs at the island's south-western corner, so terraces hang directly above the cliffs with open water below — the one pick where sunset lands squarely in front of your room rather than off to the side.

2. La Vista Resort

A hillside resort above Koolbaai rather than a beachfront block: balconies look down across Simpson Bay's lagoon and yacht traffic, a moving panorama the flat-shore Philipsburg options can't offer, at a gentler price than Cupecoy.

3. Horizon View Beach Front Hotel

Right on the Great Bay boardwalk in Philipsburg, where the outlook is harbour theatre — tenders, cruise ships and the sweep of the bay toward Fort Amsterdam — best watched from a terrace with morning coffee before town wakes.

4. Villa sea view

The lesser-known French-side counterweight: a small villa rental rather than a hotel, trading boardwalk bustle for a private sea outlook on the quieter Saint-Martin half — suited to travellers who want the view without a lobby.
