About Baie de l'Embouchure
Baie de l'Embouchure, also known as Coconut Grove or Le Galion Beach, is a serene natural reserve located on the eastern side of Saint Martin between Quartier d'Orléans and Oyster Pond. This shallow coastal bay features sandy shallows and small sandy islands that become exposed at low tide, with mangrove forests fringing the western shore. The bay is part of Saint Martin's National Nature Reserve, making it an important ecological area with diverse marine habitats and abundant birdlife including egrets, herons, and pelicans. The protected waters are home to sea turtles, colorful fish, and corals. A panoramic observation tower called the Coralita Observatory (also known as 'the whale observatory') overlooks the bay and offers stunning views of the neighboring islands of Anguilla, Tintamarre, and Saint Barthélemy, as well as Pic Paradis, the highest point on Saint Martin. The bay's calm, shallow waters and steady trade winds make it one of the premier windsurfing and kitesurfing spots on the island. Nearby: Coralita Observatory (Whale Observatory), Le Galion Beach, Orient Bay, Oyster Pond, Butterfly Farm, Caye Château islet, St. Martin National Nature Reserve, Quartier d'Orléans Access: Access via Rue du Coconut Grove, following signs for the Butterfly Farm and continuing to the end of the road. Free parking is available near the beach. Also accessible via a 5-minute coastal walk from the Club Orient end of Orient Beach. Bus service available on the Philipsburg-Marigot route with stops near the entrance. Can also be reached by boat or kayak from Galion Bay.
