La Pinha: Paramaribo's After-Hours Dance Den
A late-night Cornelis Prinsstraat institution where the music runs loud and the night runs long.
Why Go
Tucked behind an unassuming facade on Cornelis Prinsstraat, La Pinha (locals slur it into 'Lapinha') is the kind of place that only really wakes up when the rest of Paramaribo has gone to bed. It's part discotheek, part late-night bar, part adult-oriented night club, and it has been part of the city's after-dark rhythm long enough that neighbors have famously (and loudly) complained about the noise more than once.
The Experience
Expect a low-lit, mirrored dance floor pumping a heavy mix of reggaeton, Latin, Caribbean bashment, kaseko and top-40 club edits, with the tempo pushed by a resident DJ rather than a band. The crowd skews adult and local ΓÇö Surinamese, Brazilian and a scattering of Dutch expats ΓÇö and the vibe leans flirty and unpretentious rather than see-and-be-seen. There is bottle service at the booths lining the room, cold Parbo and Heineken by the bucket at the bar, and an outdoor seating pocket where regulars step out to cool off. It's paired on-site with Night Club Diamond, so be aware this is very much adult nightlife rather than a family dance bar.
What to Try
Order what everyone else is drinking: an ice-cold Parbo longneck, a Borgoe-and-cola built strong, or a shared bottle of rum if you've grabbed a booth. If you want to look like you know the room, skip the cocktail menu and go straight for Suriname's own Black Cat rum on the rocks. Pace yourself ΓÇö service speeds up dramatically the moment you tip the first round.

Nothing happens before midnight. Show up at 10pm and you'll be dancing with the bartender. The floor genuinely fills between 12:30 and 1am, and the best sets usually land after 2. Take a taxi door-to-door (ask your hotel to call one, or use a WhatsApp cab number) ΓÇö Cornelis Prinsstraat is walkable in daylight but not the block you want to be wandering at 3am with a phone out. Cash in SRD is king; card machines are hit-or-miss and euros/USD get a poor exchange at the bar.
