Fast & Fresh Dijkveld
Suriname's only home for Genuine Broaster Chicken, on the road to the interior
Why Go
Half convenience stop, half fried-chicken pilgrimage: Fast & Fresh is a Surinamese-run C-store chain that holds the country's sole franchise for America's Genuine Broaster Chicken, and the Sir Winston Churchillweg branch is the one you hit before your ATV tour, airport run, or weekend at the beach.
The Experience
Fast & Fresh (locals just say "F&F") is a Roy Boedhoe's Enterprises concept that reads like a Surinamese answer to the American gas-station-plus-hot-food formula, only the hot food is genuinely worth the detour. The Dijkveld outpost sits right on Sir Winston Churchillweg, the artery that funnels traffic between Paramaribo, the airport at Zanderij, and the resorts and adventure operators strung along the corridor. Inside, it's brightly lit, fluorescent-cool, and set up for grab-and-go: coolers of drinks along one wall, a self-serve slushie and frozen-coffee bar, and a hot counter where the Broaster Chicken comes out crackling. You'll see delivery drivers, families stocking up before a river trip, and off-road tour groups fueling up between bookings. It's not a sit-down destination – think order, grab, and eat in the car or on a plastic stool outside – but it's one of those in-between places that locals genuinely rely on.
What to Try
Order the Genuine Broaster Chicken – it's marinated and pressure-fried in a proprietary American system that F&F is the only operator licensed to run in Suriname, so this is your one shot at it in-country. Chase it with a F'real milkshake, blended in front of you at the self-serve machine (the cookies-and-cream is the crowd favorite). If it's a hot day – and in Suriname it is – hit the Frazil slushie wall for cherry limeade or mango, or pour yourself a Café Tango frozen caramel macchiato from the coffee bar. Grab a bottle of Parbo or a Fernandes soft drink for the road.
Insider Tip
Time your stop for right before you leave Paramaribo heading south – the Dijkveld branch is the last F&F on the Sir Winston Churchillweg before the road opens up toward the airport and interior, and once you pass it there's nothing comparable for kilometers. Order the chicken bucket to share; it holds heat well and turns a car ride into a proper Surinamese road-trip meal.
The Practical Stuff
Address: Sir Winston Churchillweg 135, Dijkveld, near Paramaribo. Cash (SRD) and cards generally accepted. Parking on site, drive-up friendly. Order at the counter – no reservations, no table service. Peak times are lunch and early evening when commuter traffic on the Churchillweg spikes. Two sister branches exist in town at Industrieweg Zuid 32 and A. Pengelstraat 218 if you're staying central.
