Most visitors to Paramaribo circle the same colonial blocks and wonder where the real Suriname starts. The Experience
Cardy runs out of a low-key compound in the Rainville neighborhood, a 15-minute walk from the historic center and just 200 metres from Torarica. Roll up and you'll find one of the biggest, most eclectic bike fleets in the Caribbean ΓÇö big-cushion cruisers for pottering along the Suriname River, sturdier mountain bikes for the Commewijne plantation loop, kids' bikes, tandems, the works. The vibe is more neighborhood workshop than slick tour desk: paper maps, hand-drawn route notes, and a guide who'll walk you through the pothole hotspots before you clip in. If you'd rather someone else drive, the same team runs guided city rides, birdwatching mornings, dolphin-spotting sunset cruises, Galibi turtle-nesting trips, and multi-day jungle expeditions deep into Palumeu, Raleigh Falls/Voltzberg, Kasikasima and the Roosevelt Peaks. What to Try
For a first day: grab a cruiser and pedal the river-dyke to Fort Nieuw-Amsterdam via the Meerzorg ferry ΓÇö flat, shaded, and threaded with old plantation ruins and roti stalls. For a splurge: the Raleigh Falls / Voltzberg expedition, three or four days of granite domes, howler monkeys, and cook-fire meals in the rainforest interior. Also: ask for a bike with a working bell and a lock, not both are guaranteed, and Paramaribo drivers appreciate the bell.
