Rock Lobster Seafood and Grill
Frigate Bay's go-to for lobster with a Caribbean Sea backdrop
Why Go
Just up the road from the Marriott on Zenway Boulevard, Rock Lobster has been pulling seafood-loving travelers out of their resort bubble since 2005 ΓÇö a Frigate Bay stalwart where the lobster is the star and the sea is your soundtrack.
The Experience
Rock Lobster sits in the buzzy Frigate Bay strip, close enough to the beach that you can smell the salt air from the outdoor deck. The vibe lands somewhere between elegant and easy: soft music, candlelit tables, a mix of couples on date nights and families in from the resorts. Grab a seat on the terrace if you can ΓÇö sunset here is the whole reason to book the early slot. Service is warm and unhurried, cocktails come strong, and the kitchen leans on fresh local catch alongside a surprisingly serious steak program (they run USDA Black Angus for the beef crowd).
What to Try
The Lobster Thermidor is the dish regulars come back for ΓÇö tail meat cooked just past translucent, rich sauce, no gimmicks. If you want the theater, order the grilled whole lobster and let them break it down tableside. Off the seafood list, the herb parmesan grouper and blackened mahi-mahi both punch above their price, and the coconut shrimp starter is worth doubling up on. Pair anything with one of the rum-forward signature cocktails.
Insider Tip
Book Friday or Saturday and you're fighting for a table with half the Marriott ΓÇö go Tuesday or Sunday instead, arrive at 5:30 for the sunset seating on the terrace, and ask the server what lobster came in that day (availability shifts with the catch, and "whole grilled" isn't always the best call). And remember: closed Wednesdays, so don't waste a taxi ride mid-week.
The Practical Stuff
Address: Zenway Boulevard, Frigate Bay, Basseterre, St. Kitts. Hours: 5:00 PM–10:00 PM daily, closed Wednesdays. Price: $$–$$$ (entrées $50–60+, paella pushes past $120). Reservations strongly recommended in high season and on weekends. Walkable from the St. Kitts Marriott; short taxi from cruise port or Basseterre. Indoor and outdoor seating; the deck can get a few flies at dusk — bring repellent if you're sensitive.
Pair It With
- Frigate Bay South (The Strip) — After dinner, wander two minutes down to the beach bars on the Caribbean side for rum punches and live music ΓÇö Mr. X's Shiggidy Shack and Buddies are the classic post-meal stops.
- South Friars Beach — Spend the day beach-hopping and lunching at Carambola or Shipwreck before an early sunset dinner at Rock Lobster ΓÇö it's a 10-minute drive back up.
- Timothy Hill Overlook — Pair a pre-dinner photo stop at the Atlantic-meets-Caribbean viewpoint (15 min south) with your 5:30 seating to bookend the sunset.
