Slip through a garden gate a few blocks west of Port Zante and suddenly Basseterre goes quiet ΓÇö you're on a hillside terrace laced with palms, bougainvillea and Moroccan lanterns, looking down at cruise ships in the harbor and Nevis on the horizon. Palms Court Gardens is one of those tucked-away St. Kitts spots that feels like a private villa you somehow have keys to.
The Experience
The property climbs the Fortlands hill in a series of tiled terraces, koi ponds and shaded loungers, with THE VIEW restaurant occupying the top deck. By day it doubles as a low-key retreat ΓÇö a day-pass gets you the pool, gardens and lunch, which is exactly why in-the-know cruisers walk here instead of taxiing across the island. Service is unhurried and warm; the vibe is casual-elegant rather than stuffy, so shorts at lunch are fine, but you'll want something a touch nicer for the Thursday-through-Sunday dinner service when the lanterns come on. Don't miss the Shell Works Boutique on the way in ΓÇö the owner's shell art and Caribbean-made pieces are genuinely worth browsing, not the usual cruise-port trinkets.
What to Try
Lean into the Caribbean side of the menu ΓÇö locally-caught fish, conch and Kittitian-inflected small plates pair beautifully with a rum punch on the terrace. At lunch, a light plate plus a swim in the pool is the move; at dinner, come at golden hour for the harbor lighting up below. The rum list is deeper than it looks ΓÇö ask the bartender to steer you toward a Kittitian pour you can't get back home.

If you're off a cruise ship, skip the taxi line and walk ΓÇö it's roughly 10 minutes west of Port Zante up Wilkin Street, and the day-pass (pool + gardens + lunch credit) is one of the best-value shore experiences on the island. Book dinner ahead via OpenTable; the terrace only seats so many, and ThursdayΓÇôSunday fills up fast in high season. Note: the property is scheduled to close for renovations September 20 ΓÇô October 12, 2026, so plan around it.
