The Experience
You arrive after a 15-minute drive from Roosevelt Airport (rent the car on-site — trust us, you'll want it) and wind up the estate road until the villa opens up: five bedrooms, five baths, high ceilings, and a pool deck angled straight at the ocean. Mornings are for continental breakfast under the covered terrace while the Quill's crater catches the first light behind you. Afternoons split between the pool, the BBQ, and short drives down to Oranjestad's Lower Town. What to Try
Book a guided Quill Trail hike straight from the property — the trailhead is essentially your backyard. Drive 10 minutes down to Lower Town for a shore-entry dive at the Aquarium site (one of the best-preserved reefs in the Caribbean thanks to Statia's marine park). Fire up the villa's BBQ with mahi from the fishermen at Gallows Bay rather than eating out every night. Friday evening, head to Oranjestad's boardwalk for the weekly island lime — music, drinks, and every Statian you'll meet all week.

Statia has almost no light pollution and the villa sits above the town glow — leave the pool deck lights off after dinner and you'll see the Milky Way clean across the sky. Second tip: the Knippenga estate road can be rough, so ask the on-site car rental for something with a bit of clearance rather than a compact. And stock up at Duggins or Windward supermarket on arrival — there is no bodega around the corner up here.
