Perched on the seaward edge of Lower Town, this small, easy-going hotel puts you within a barefoot walk of the reef, a five-minute uphill scramble to Upper Town's cobblestoned history, and steps from what has quietly become the island's favourite waterfront hangout.
The Experience
There are only eight rooms plus a standalone cabana here, and that's the whole point. Check-in happens at the Harbour Club Statia next door, which doubles as the hotel's de facto lobby, café and social hub — you'll meet Minke or one of the team, get a warm welcome and probably a coffee before you've even seen your room. Interiors are crisp and simple: white walls, cool tile floors, mini-fridge, smart TV, strong WiFi, and either a cliff or ocean view through big sliding doors. Most guests never bother with the AC — the trade winds off Orange Bay do the job themselves. Mornings start with a proper breakfast on the Harbour Club terrace (pre-ordered the night before so nothing is wasted), afternoons drift toward the water, and evenings tend to end at the First Salute Lounge with a rum and whoever else is on the island that week — divemasters, expats, a stray cruise-yacht captain.
What to Try
Book the standalone cabana if it's free — the private porch, microwave, coffee maker and unbroken sunset view over Orange Bay make it the sleeper pick of the property. For rooms, always ask for an upper floor: the sightline stretches clean out to Saba on a clear day. Order the full breakfast at Harbour Club (eggs, cold cuts, cheeses, fresh pastries — locals rate it the best morning plate in Lower Town) and come back for dinner at least once; the kitchen leans European-Caribbean with genuinely good ingredients. Slip into the First Salute Lounge for a sundowner — it's where you'll actually meet Statians rather than just other tourists.
Insider Tip
The reef wall drops off almost directly in front of the hotel, so you don't need a boat to have your first snorkel of the trip — walk out with a mask before breakfast and you'll usually spot turtles and reef fish over the coral. If you're diving with Scubaqua (a two-minute walk up the road), tell them you're staying at Orange Bay and they'll often time morning pickups to the hotel's breakfast window instead of making you rush.

Location: Van Tonningenweg / Lower Bay, Oranjestad — the seaward strip of Lower Town, roughly a 5–10 minute walk (uphill) to Upper Town's shops, museums and Fort Oranje. Airport transfers can be arranged on request; the airport is about 10 minutes by car. Breakfast is included in the rate and served at the adjoining Harbour Club Statia; lunch and dinner are à la carte at the same terrace. Free WiFi and free parking on site. Rooms are non-smoking and family-friendly, with either twin or double bed configurations. Cash and card both accepted, but bring some US dollars (Statia's official currency) for smaller vendors around town.
