K'O Rooms B&B

A homely six-room base in the heart of Oranjestad, minutes from Statia's forts, ruins, and dive shops.

Why Go

On an island where fewer than a dozen places take overnight guests, K'O Rooms is the walkable, no-fuss option that puts you inside historic Oranjestad instead of a resort compound — wake up, grab a coffee, and step straight into 17th-century fort ruins and Statia's dive-boat harbor.

The Experience

K'O sits on Carl Nicholson Road in Upper Town, the residential-meets-historic core of Oranjestad. The house holds six private rooms, each with its own bathroom, and the vibe is Caribbean guesthouse rather than boutique hotel: quiet, personal, and refreshingly practical for a destination where 'nightlife' means stargazing and iguana-spotting. Sea and hillside views open up from the property, and because Statia sees maybe a few dozen leisure visitors on any given day, you'll usually have the porch — and half the island — to yourself. Continental breakfast is included on weekdays, housekeeping is daily, and the owners can arrange laundry when your dive gear needs a rinse.

What to Try

Take breakfast on the porch, then walk five minutes to Fort Oranje for the sunrise cannon view over the Caribbean. Book a two-tank dive at Scubaqua or Golden Rock Dive Center down the road (Statia is one of the last uncrowded reef systems in the Lesser Antilles). Spend an afternoon wandering the Honen Dalim synagogue ruins and the St. Eustatius Historical Foundation Museum, both within a ten-minute stroll. Cap the day with a rum punch at one of the small local kitchens in Lower Town.

Insider Tip

Ask the hosts to help you time a Quill volcano hike for early morning — the trailhead is a short taxi ride, and the crater's cloud-forest microclimate is markedly cooler if you're up top before 10 a.m. Also: bring cash. ATMs on Statia are limited and card acceptance is patchy, especially at the smaller eateries you'll actually want to try.

The Practical Stuff

Address: Carl Nicholson Road #13, Oranjestad, Sint Eustatius (Caribbean Netherlands). Six en-suite rooms; continental breakfast Mon–Fri; daily housekeeping and paid laundry service. Walking distance to Fort Oranje, the museum, and the synagogue ruins; roughly a 5–10 minute drive to F.D. Roosevelt Airport and to the Quill trailhead. Book ahead — Statia has very limited room inventory island-wide.

Pair It With

  • Fort Oranje Guide — The island's 17th-century Dutch fort is a five-minute walk from the front door and the best sunset perch in town.
  • Scubaqua Dive Center Guide — Statia's marine park is the reason most travelers come — pair your stay with a two- or three-tank dive package on the untouched wall reefs.
  • The Quill National Park — A morning hike into the dormant volcano's crater rainforest is the classic Statia day trip and easy to arrange from Oranjestad.
  • Honen Dalim Synagogue Ruins Guide — One of the oldest synagogue sites in the Americas, a short walk from K'O and a quiet counterpoint to the fort.
  • Ocean View Terrace Guide — Casual local restaurant beside Fort Oranje for dinner with a Caribbean-sunset view when you don't feel like driving.
