Bobbie's Beach Club by Golden Rock Dive & Nature Resort
Cliffside sushi, pizza and grills where the Quill meets the Atlantic
Why Go
Perched 26 metres above the sea beside the Caribbean's largest man-made ocean-fed cliff lagoon, Bobbie's is Statia's most theatrical dinner spot — three open kitchens firing pizzas, sushi and BBQ while hummingbird murals and DJ beats keep the mood high.
The Experience
Golden Rock's eco-luxury sister venue trades white-tablecloth formality for barefoot glamour. You dine on woven chairs under swaying plants, with the Atlantic crashing against the volcanic cliffs below and the silhouette of the Quill volcano behind you. Three open kitchens work in parallel — one rolling sushi boats, one sliding pizzas from a wood oven, and one grilling lamb chops and Caribbean BBQ specialities — so the room hums with a fusion energy that's rare on sleepy Statia. Live music and DJ sets on weekend evenings turn dinner into a slow, lingering event; earlier arrivals catch the sunset light bouncing off the lagoon.
What to Try
Order a sushi boat to share (the kitchen is known for elaborate presentation), a wood-fired pizza for the table, and at least one plate off the BBQ speciality menu — the lamb chops are the signature. Round it out with a rum cocktail on the terrace as the light fades.
Insider Tip
Bobbie's runs a limited season and can go dark in the low months — while it's closed, the resort quietly moves the sushi menu across to Breeze Restaurant on property, so you can still get the same rolls in a quieter setting. Always call ahead or check bobbies-beachclub.resos.com before making the drive up to Behind the Mountain.
The Practical Stuff
Located at Behind the Mountain #21 on the Golden Rock Dive & Nature Resort estate, roughly 10 minutes' drive from Oranjestad. In-season hours are Thursday–Saturday, 6:00–9:30 PM (dinner only). Reservations strongly recommended via bobbies-beachclub.resos.com or +599 318 3348. Open to non-resort guests. Bring a light layer — the cliffside breeze picks up after dark.
Pair It With
- Aquarium Dive Site — Spend the afternoon exploring one of Statia's most iconic reefs, then head straight up to Bobbie's clifftop for sushi and sunset — a classic dive-and-dine pairing on the island.
- The Quill National Park — Hike the dormant volcano's crater rim by day; Bobbie's sits at the base of the same volcano, so you can toast the summit from your dinner table.
- Golden Rock Dive & Nature Resort Guide — Book a room at the parent eco-resort to skip the drive back down the mountain and extend the evening with a nightcap by the cliff-edge lagoon.
- Oranjestad Historic Core — Wander the ruins of Lower Town and Fort Oranje in the late afternoon, then drive up for a dinner that feels a world away from the sleepy capital.
