Why Go

Perched on the heights of Colombier inside the private La Réserve domain, Villa Les Palmes is the kind of place you book once and quietly plot your return before you've unpacked. Ten guests, five ensuite king bedrooms, and a panorama over Flamands bay and its islets that makes 'infinity pool' feel like an understatement.

The Experience

Days here have a rhythm all their own. Mornings usually start on one of the shaded terraces with coffee and that endless blue horizon, before someone drifts toward the heated infinity pool and the rest of the group follows. The villa is built to spread out — an air-conditioned lounge, a gourmet kitchen with island seating, an outdoor living room, and a wide deck lined with couches — so a group of ten never feels stacked on top of each other. There's a small gym for guests who still want to move, and a private massage room that quietly turns the villa into a spa on demand. Colombier is the quiet, residential end of the island, which is exactly the point: you're only about ten minutes from Gustavia's harbor and shops and a similar hop to St-Jean, but at the villa itself you mostly hear wind, cicadas, and the occasional splash from the pool. Evenings settle into sunset cocktails on the deck, dinners around the outdoor table, and the kind of long, unrushed conversations that only happen when everyone knows they don't have to drive anywhere.

What to Try

Take at least one morning to walk down to Colombier Beach — the trail from Anse des Flamands is one of the most beautiful on the island and the beach itself is only reachable on foot or by boat, which keeps it blissfully quiet. Book the villa's private masseuse for a sunset treatment on your own terrace at least once, fire up the barbecue for a group dinner rather than eating out every night, and set aside a lazy pool day where the only decision is rosé or something stronger. If you have a captain in the group, charter a day boat from Gustavia and drop anchor off the same Flamands islets you've been staring at from the pool.

Insider Tip

Ask your villa manager to arrange a pre-arrival provisioning run and a chef for the first night — after a travel day into SBH's famously short runway, no one actually wants to hunt for groceries or a restaurant reservation. And request the bedrooms be assigned by group before you land; with five equally beautiful ensuites, sorting couples and friends by WhatsApp on the plane is a much smoother start than doing it in the driveway.

The Practical Stuff

Location: Colombier, in the gated La Réserve domain, about 10 minutes by car from Gustavia and 8 minutes from St-Jean and the airport. Layout: 5 air-conditioned ensuite king bedrooms opening to terraces, sleeps up to 10 guests. Amenities: heated infinity pool, outdoor and indoor lounges, gourmet kitchen, BBQ, gym, private massage room, private parking. Access: gated property; a rental car (ideally a small SUV or Mini Moke — the Colombier road is steep and narrow) is essentially required. Stay: 7-night minimum is standard; high season (mid-December through early January) books out a year ahead and carries the steepest rates, while May–June and November are the sweet spot for weather and value. Getting there: fly into SBH via St-Maarten (SXM) on Winair or St Barth Commuter, or arrive by ferry to Gustavia; villa staff can coordinate airport transfers on request.
