The Experience
Amancaya sprawls across the ridgeline of Anse des Cayes as a cluster of teak-and-stone bungalows radiating from a central pavilion, an architectural gesture that borrows openly from Balinese temple compounds and marries it to the breeze-through simplicity of the French Antilles. Up to fourteen guests can settle into seven suites spread between two connected villas, each opening to trade winds, tropical foliage and the long silver view of Anse des Lézards. Days here have a natural rhythm: two infinity pools that seem to spill into the Caribbean, a fitness pavilion for the disciplined, quiet corners of terrace for the rest of us, and a housekeeping team that lays out continental breakfast so unobtrusively you barely notice the coffee arriving. The interiors — carved doors, hand-picked textiles, deep-cushioned daybeds — are more Ubud than Gustavia, but the light, the frangipani and the salt-air breeze are unmistakably St Barth. What to Try
Claim the upper infinity pool at golden hour, when the sun drops behind Île Chevreau and turns the whole bay copper. Book the private chef service for at least one dinner on the main terrace — the kitchen is built for it. Walk (or drive five minutes down) to the sand at Anse des Cayes to watch the local surfers on the reef break in front of Le Manapany, then wander to Abyss for a long, unhurried lunch. Insider Tip
The two villas that make up Amancaya can be rented as one estate or split — if your group is fewer than ten, ask the agent about taking only the 'Cozy Amancaya' side; you'll still get an infinity pool and the full view at a materially lower rate, and the second villa often stays empty unless separately booked. Also: the road up to the property is steep and narrow with a blind switchback near the top, so request the smallest available Mini or Suzuki Jimny at the airport rather than a full-size SUV.
The Practical Stuff
Anse des Cayes, 97133, Saint Barthélemy. Roughly 5 minutes by car to Gustavia, 3 minutes to St-Jean and Rémy de Haenen Airport, and a 90-second descent to the beach and reef break below. Access is by rental car only — there is no public transport and taxis are scarce; 4 Sea Zone St Barth can arrange private transfers and boat charters.
