Pati de St Barth: The Island's Original Souvenir With Style

Skip the tacky tees — this is the logo locals actually wear.

Why Go

Before Pati Guyot hand-drew the now-ubiquitous 'Saint Barth French West Indies' logo in 1989, there was no chic way to wear the island home. Her Gustavia concept store is where that piece of St Barth heritage still lives, and it's the reason you'll spot the same script on yacht crews, longtime villa owners, and second-generation regulars all over the island.

The Experience

Tucked along Rue du Bord de Mer a block from the harbor, the Gustavia flagship feels less like a souvenir shop and more like a well-curated island wardrobe. Racks of buttery Peruvian pima cotton tees in every sun-washed color, stacks of featherweight cashmere, breezy linen for men, and pint-sized versions for the kids sit under warm wood and clean white walls. The staff greet you in that unhurried St Barth way — French, English, and a lot of smiling — and encourage you to actually touch the fabric, which is really the whole point.

What to Try

The classic short-sleeve pima tee with the original 1989 logo is the non-negotiable — get one for yourself and a size up for a friend, because you'll regret not doing it. Beyond the icon: the organic cotton sweatshirts (perfect for the surprisingly cool boat rides home from Colombier), the cashmere travel wraps that live permanently in regulars' carry-ons, and the miniature versions for babies and toddlers that make the world's best 'welcome baby' gift. Accessories — caps, totes, beach pouches — round out an easy gift haul.

Insider Tip

The Gustavia store carries the deepest inventory and the newest seasonal colorways; the St Jean boutique and the airport counter are convenient but stock is thinner and sizes go fast in high season. If you're flying out and forgot to shop, the airport branch is a lifesaver — but if you have even an hour in town, do Gustavia first. And ask about the pima colors that aren't on the floor: they often have more in back, especially in men's sizing.

The Practical Stuff

Location: Rue du Bord de Mer, Gustavia 97133, a two-minute walk from the main quay. Typical hours run mid-morning to early evening with a French-style midday pause; Sundays and low-season afternoons can be quieter, so call ahead (+590 590 87 77 21) if you're on a tight schedule. Price range is mid-to-upper for resort retail — think €55–€95 for a tee, more for cashmere — and cards are accepted. Cash euros work too. Bags are compact and pack flat, ideal for the tight overhead bins on the Winair hop back to SXM.
