Signature rolls, omakase nights, and Toyosu-grade nigiri tucked off the harbor.

Why Go

On an island where the dinner playbook usually reads 'grilled snapper by candlelight,' Megumi flips the script — a warm-wood, softly-lit sushi room where fish flown from Tokyo's Toyosu Market meets Caribbean improvisation. It's the kind of place locals default to when they've had one too many rosé-and-tartare nights and crave something cleaner, sharper, and quietly indulgent.

The Experience

Slip off Rue Jeanne d'Arc into a compact, minimalist space where the sushi bar is the best seat in the house. The vibe is intimate rather than showy — think low light, unhurried service, and chefs who'll actually talk to you if you sit at the counter. Couples lean in over sake flights, small groups split platters family-style, and the occasional yacht crew ducks in for takeout on the way back to the marina. Dress is smart-casual (this is still St. Barth), but nobody's fussing over a linen shirt. Expect the room to fill quickly after 8pm — early seatings feel like a private tasting, later ones hum with the low-key buzz of Gustavia's dinner crowd.

What to Try

Start with edamame and a bowl of miso, then let the chef guide you: otoro (fatty bluefin) and hamachi dressed with ponzu and yuzu kosho are the sleeper hits, and the Hokkaido scallop nigiri with black truffle is worth the splurge when it's on. The Eel & Avocado Dragon Roll with teriyaki glaze is the crowd-pleaser signature; the crunchy rolls and baos travel well if you're getting takeout. For a first-timer, the omakase at the sushi bar is the move. Wash it down with a Yuzu Mojito, a Tokyo Negroni, or a proper Japanese whisky pour — the sake list is small but curated.

Insider Tip

Book the sushi bar (not a table) and ask about the day's Toyosu shipment before you order — the rare cuts sell out fast and the chef will steer you toward what came in fresh that morning. If you're staying up in Colombier or Lorient and don't feel like driving into Gustavia twice, order takeout by 7pm and eat it on your terrace with a cold Asahi — a beer-and-California-roll combo runs under €15, which is basically a St. Barth miracle.

The Practical Stuff

Address: 27 Rue Jeanne d'Arc, Gustavia 97133. Dinner only, roughly 6pm–11pm (call ahead to confirm — hours shift in low season). Dine-in, takeout, and delivery all available. Reservations strongly recommended in high season, especially for the sushi bar. Parking in Gustavia is tight after 7pm; walking from the harbor is easiest. Cards accepted. Not a great fit for large groups (>6) — the room is small.
