The Experience
Tucked into gardens along the longest stretch of white sand on St-Barth's wild north coast, Cheval Blanc feels less like a resort and more like a private beach club that happens to have 61 rooms, bungalows and villas hidden inside it. Days move at the speed of the tide: coffee delivered to a shaded terrace, a swim in the two-kilometre arc of Baie des Flamands, lunch with your toes in the sand at La Cabane, and a late-afternoon Guerlain ritual before sunset cocktails on the pool deck. Flamands is exposed to Atlantic swell, so if you're a light sleeper or want the calmest snorkelling, ask specifically for a garden bungalow set back from the sand rather than a beachfront room — you trade the front-row view for silence and easier villa-style privacy. Also: reserve La Case at least a week ahead in high season (mid-December through Presidents' Week), and skip a rental car — the concierge can put you in a Mini Moke for the days you actually want one, and shuttle you to Gustavia the rest of the time.

Address: Baie des Flamands, 97133 St-Barthélemy. Roughly 10 minutes by car from Gustavia and 5 minutes from Saint-Jean/the airport (R?my de Haenen). Best window: mid-December to mid-April for the dry, breezy 'Carême' season; late April through June is the sweet spot for lower rates, empty beach and still-perfect weather. Avoid September–early November (hurricane season; the hotel typically closes for a refresh). Dress code is resort-elegant at dinner — no beachwear at La Case after sundown.
