Perched on the volcanic cliffs of Pointe Milou, Cap au Vent is the kind of St Barth villa you fantasize about on a grey Tuesday — a freshly renovated four-bedroom hideaway wrapped in trade winds, with a heated infinity pool that seems to spill straight into the sea and sightlines that reach all the way to Anguilla on a clear day.
The Experience
Cap au Vent lives up to its name — 'headland to the wind.' Days start with continental breakfast delivered to the covered terrace while the sun climbs over Île Fregate and Île Toc Vers, and end with rosé on the deck as the sky turns pink behind St Martin in the distance. Inside, four air-conditioned bedrooms (three kings and a twin ideal for kids) come dressed in Italian linens, each with its own ensuite. Outside is really the point though: a wraparound terrace, deep loungers under shade, and that infinity pool angled dead-center at the 270° horizon. It's residential Pointe Milou at its purest — no crowds, no through traffic, just cliffs, wind, and ocean.
What to Try
Book the villa's daily breakfast service and eat it slowly — the light on the outer islands between 7 and 9am is the whole reason you're here. Then head five minutes down the hill to Lorient for the boulangerie run (fresh baguettes, pain au chocolat, and a café crème at JoJo Supermarché's counter). Sunset drinks belong on the terrace, but at least one night should be spent at Le Ti St Barth, the peninsula's legendary cabaret-dinner club just up the road. For a beach day, Lorient (surf, locals, whales in Feb–April) and St Jean (turquoise, calm, chic) are both under 10 minutes by car.
Insider Tip
Pointe Milou has no beach and almost no commerce — that's the trade-off for the privacy and the views. Rent a car (a Mini Moke or small 4x4 is the island standard), and on your grocery run hit the Marché U in St Jean rather than the smaller Lorient markets — better selection of French cheeses, wines, and prepared plates to bring back to the villa. And if you want the pool heated, confirm it with the villa manager before arrival; it's included but needs to be switched on in advance.
