The Experience
American Gourmet doesn't feel like a Caribbean grocery run. It's part boutique, part chef's supply room, part concierge desk — narrow aisles packed with luxury pantry staples, a serious cheese and charcuterie case, top-shelf spirits, and produce so pristine it looks staged. Owners Eric and Pia are usually on the floor, and the staff talk about ingredients the way sommeliers talk about vintages. Locals pop in for a single wedge of comté; yacht chefs walk out with three trolleys and a delivery slip for a boat docked 300 meters away. The whole operation is built around the idea that being on a rock in the Caribbean shouldn't mean compromising on what ends up on the plate.
What to Try
Ask what came in on the morning flight — Dutch edible flowers, aromatic microgreens, and French sun-kissed strawberries are house signatures. The fresh seafood and Kobe cuts are what pull the professional chefs in, and the charcuterie/cheese counter is one of the deepest on the island. Round out a basket with a bottle from the luxury spirits wall and a jar of something you've never heard of from the imported pantry section.
