Some restaurants buy their fish; Sprat Net catches it. This family-run institution on the west coast of St. Kitts grew out of a fishing operation in Old Road Town, and the day's catch goes straight from the boats to the grill. Strung with fishing nets and buzzing with locals, it's the kind of place taxi drivers recommend before any hotel concierge does.
The Experience
Expect long communal wooden benches under open-air sheds, fishing nets and buoys as decor, TVs showing sports, and smoke rolling off the charcoal grills. The vibe is loud, friendly and unpretentious — families, fishermen, expats and cruise visitors all share tables. Wednesday night is the famous lime, when the place fills with locals and the party runs late into the evening. Order at the counter, grab a cold Carib or Stag, and wait for your number while the sea breeze does the air conditioning.
What to Try
The grilled whole fish (usually snapper or whatever came in that day) with rice, salad and provisions is the signature. Caribbean lobster in season is superb value, and the barbecue ribs and chicken hold their own. Don't skip the wood-fired-style pizza — locals argue it's the best on the island, and a seafood pizza plus grilled fish combo is the classic move for a table to share.

Go on Wednesday night (roughly 6–11:30pm) for the legendary local lime — but arrive early, because benches fill fast and the fish can sell out. Portions are big and prices modest, so order like a local: one grilled fish platter and one pizza between two people. Bring cash (EC or US dollars) to keep things simple.

Located on the main road in Old Road Town, about 15–20 minutes' drive west of Basseterre — any taxi driver knows it. Typically open for dinner Wednesday through Sunday from around 6pm; closed Monday and Tuesday. Casual dress, open-air seating, counter-style ordering. Budget-to-moderate prices; seafood platters and pizzas offer some of the best value on St. Kitts.
