Dive St. Kitts

Boat dives, shore dives, and turtle sightings from a laid-back harbor base

Why Go

Most Caribbean dive shops make you ride a boat before you see anything worth talking about. Dive St. Kitts sits on top of one of the island's best easy-access shore dives — you can wade off the beach at Bird Rock and be over living reef in minutes, with the dive boat waiting in its own private harbor for everything farther out.

The Experience

Based onsite at the Bird Rock Beach Hotel just outside Basseterre, this is a small, personal operation rather than a cattle-boat outfit. The team runs a 32-foot twin-engine monohull out of a sheltered private harbor, heading to the calm Caribbean side of St. Kitts where volcanic reefs, coral heads, and wrecks sit at friendly recreational depths. Groups stay small, briefings are unhurried, and the crew knows where the resident critters live — expect hawksbill turtles, rays, and dense schools of reef fish, with seahorses and frogfish possible for sharp-eyed divers on the house reef. Conditions suit newer divers, while wreck and deeper reef options keep experienced ones busy.

What to Try

Do the two-tank morning boat trip to sites like Monkey Shoals or the River Taw wreck, then come back and add the Bird Rock shore dive — it's the shop's signature, teeming with macro life and turtles just off the beach. Night dives here are excellent for the same reason: easy entry, short swim, big payoff.

Insider Tip

Confirm all pricing — including full equipment rental — by email before you arrive, and get it in writing. Rental gear can cost noticeably more than expected, so divers traveling with their own mask, computer, and wetsuit save real money. Book morning departures; afternoon wind can chop up the Caribbean side.

The Practical Stuff

Located at Bird Rock Beach Hotel, Bird Rock, near Basseterre and about 10 minutes from the Frigate Bay resort strip and the cruise port at Port Zante. Morning boat dives are the standard schedule; reserve ahead in high season (December–April) and re-confirm the day before, as trips depend on minimum numbers and weather. Bring certification cards, reef-safe sunscreen, and cash or card for extras. Taxis from Frigate Bay hotels are quick and easy.
