Why Go
Slip through a wrought-iron gate off Charlestown's main street and you land in a technicolor courtyard where turquoise tables, tropical foliage and a slice of sea view make the rest of the capital melt away. Cafe des Arts is Nevis's favorite little escape hatch: half garden, half gallery, and entirely unbothered by the clock.
The Experience
Set in the garden of the historic Hamilton House Museum (birthplace of Alexander Hamilton), the cafe feels less like a restaurant and more like someone's very stylish backyard. Mismatched painted chairs sit under banana trees, local art hangs on every surface, and the soundtrack is a mix of birdsong, clinking espresso cups and the easy chatter of ex-pats, museum-goers and Charlestown regulars who treat it as an unofficial living room. Service runs on island time in the best way ΓÇö order at the counter, grab a shaded table, and let the morning unspool. From certain seats you can catch a glimpse of the Caribbean over the low stone wall, which pairs nicely with a second cappuccino.
What to Try
Start with a proper cooked breakfast or one of the freshly made quiches ΓÇö the pastry is the sort of thing you'd expect in a French bistro, not a Caribbean side street. At lunch, the made-to-order sandwiches and big garden salads are the reliable pick. But the real event is Tuesday Burger Night (from 6pm), when the kitchen fires up organic Nevis-raised beef, plus chicken, pan-fried fish and veggie burgers, chilli and hand-cut fries. Wash it down with a cold Carib or a fresh juice.

Cafe des Arts keeps quirky hours ΓÇö roughly Monday to Friday, 10am until '2ish' ΓÇö so treat it as a breakfast-through-early-lunch spot, not a dinner plan (Tuesday burger night is the exception, and it books up fast with regulars, so call +1 869 667-8768 ahead). If the front looks quiet, keep walking: the entrance can be easy to miss, and the magic is all in the back garden.
