Ask at the desk about the EducationUSA advising corner if you're travelling with students, and take a slow lap around the building's exterior to appreciate the stonework and the war-memorial obelisk in the adjoining square. If it's raining or the midday heat is punishing, a half hour reading by the windows is one of Charlestown's most underrated free experiences.

Come in the late morning on a weekday ΓÇö after the school-run rush but before the lunchtime lull ΓÇö when the reading room is at its calmest and staff have time to chat. Dress modestly (this is a government building, not a beach bar), silence your phone, and bring a photo ID in case you'd like to sit and read for a while.
