The beach itself is intentionally low-key: gazebos, cabanas, and umbrellas laid out under the sea grapes, a bar shack pouring rum punches, and a shuttle that ferries hotel guests down from the historic plantation grounds where Horatio Nelson married Fanny Nisbet under a silk cotton tree in 1787.
The Experience
Arrive expecting resort noise and you'll be pleasantly wrong-footed. Montpelier Beach feels more like a family's private stretch of sand than a hotel amenity ΓÇö quiet water, soft grey-gold sand, and views across the channel toward St. Kitts. Lunch is delivered from the plantation kitchen (think grilled mahi, chilled soups, Caribbean-Mediterranean small plates), and the bar keeps things civilised with cold Caribs, rum flights, and a short but sharp cocktail list. Service ratios at the hotel run roughly two staff to every guest, and that same easy attentiveness follows you down to the sand. Come mid-afternoon the light turns honey-gold, the breeze picks up, and most guests drift between a swim, a paperback, and a nap in the shade.
What to Try
Book a lunch table under one of the beach gazebos and order the catch of the day with a rum-based sundowner from the beach bar. If you're staying at the plantation, do the full arc: breakfast on the Great Room terrace, morning at the beach, afternoon tea back up the hill, then Restaurant 750 (set inside the 300-year-old sugar mill) for dinner. Non-guests can sometimes arrange a day pass or a lunch reservation ΓÇö call ahead, as the beach caps numbers deliberately.

The beach is not signposted from the main road and access is essentially private ΓÇö the shuttle from Montpelier Plantation is the easy way in. If you're not a hotel guest, phone the front desk in advance rather than turning up; a lunch booking is usually the smoothest ticket. Bring reef-safe sunscreen (the cove is calm and clear, and staff appreciate it) and time your visit for a weekday, when it's at its quietest.
