TG Car Rental
No-deposit wheels for chasing Antigua's 365 beaches
Why Go
Antigua rewards drivers who wander — and TG Car Rental hands you the keys with none of the usual friction. No deposit hold, free islandwide delivery, and a small local fleet of hatchbacks, sedans and jeeps means you can be unlocking a hidden cove within an hour of touching down at V.C. Bird International, just up Sir Vivian Richards Street.
The Experience
Walk-ins to the Sir Vivian Richards Street base are quick and low-key — this is a family-run operation, not a corporate counter with lines and upsell scripts. Most guests never actually visit: TG will meet you at the airport, your villa, the cruise pier, or a hotel lobby with the car cleaned, fueled and paperwork ready in about ten minutes. Fleet skews practical over flashy — think Suzuki, Toyota and Nissan compacts for coast-hopping, plus 4x4 jeeps for the rutted tracks out to Rendezvous Bay or the rainforest interior. Rates are transparent, three-day and weekly specials knock the daily price down noticeably, and staff are reachable on WhatsApp if you get a flat on some potholed backroad — which, this being Antigua, you might.
What to Try
Grab a 4x4 jeep for at least one day and point it at the wild south coast: Rendezvous Bay and Doigs Beach are only reachable on rough tracks, and they're the kind of empty white-sand crescents that make the rental worth every dollar. Otherwise a compact is plenty for the north-coast beach circuit (Dickenson Bay, Runaway, Fort James) and the drive up to Shirley Heights for the Sunday sunset party. Ask about the weekly rate even if you're only staying five days — it often works out cheaper than paying by the day.
Insider Tip
You'll need to buy a temporary Antigua driving permit (US$20, valid 90 days) on top of the rental — TG can arrange it at pickup so you skip the trip to the police station, but confirm this when you book. Also: driving is on the LEFT, road signs are scarce, and Google Maps occasionally routes you down goat tracks. Download offline maps and screenshot the route to your villa before you leave wifi.
The Practical Stuff
Address: Sir Vivian Richards Street, St John's — about 5 minutes from V.C. Bird International Airport (ANU). Free delivery and collection islandwide, including airport, cruise port and hotels. Phone/WhatsApp: +1 268-724-6823. Payment: credit card, no security deposit hold required (rare in Antigua). Requirements: valid home driver's license plus the local temporary permit. Minimum age typically 25. Drive on the left; petrol stations cluster around St John's and get sparse on the east and south coasts, so fill up before long drives.
Pair It With
- Adventure Antigua — Once you've got wheels, driving yourself to Jolly Harbour or the Nelson's Dockyard marinas for one of their eco-tours or private charters is cheaper and more flexible than booking hotel transfers.
- Antigua Hikes and Tours Guide — A rental car lets you meet guides at remote trailheads like Rendezvous Bluff or Signal Hill that are a pain to reach by taxi.
- Boardwalk Casino Guide — Easy evening add-on — it's a short, well-lit drive from most north-coast resorts, so you can head in for dinner and slots without negotiating a late-night cab back.
