Loose Cannon Beach Bar
Barefoot beach dining on Galleon Beach, where the boats bob and the rum flows
Why Go
Tucked onto the powdery crescent of Galleon Beach across the harbour from Nelson's Dockyard, Loose Cannon is the kind of place you kick off your flip-flops before you've even ordered. It blurs the line between fine-dining restaurant and toes-in-the-sand beach bar, drawing yachties, day-trippers and locals into the same easy Caribbean rhythm.
The Experience
You arrive by little water taxi from Nelson's Dockyard (or on foot down the hill from Shirley Heights) and the tempo changes instantly: turquoise water lapping the sand, brightly striped umbrellas, superyachts anchored in the bay and a smiling crew pouring rum punches at the beach shack bar. Grab a lounger and cabana for the day, swim between courses, and stay for grilled seafood on white-linen tables as the light softens on English Harbour. In peak season it tips festive ΓÇö reggae on the speakers, a full bar humming ΓÇö but midweek lunches feel almost private.
What to Try
Start with a signature rum cocktail from their in-house distillery selection or a spicy Loose Cannon Painkiller. From the grill, the whole catch-of-the-day snapper and the jerk chicken are standouts, and locals swear by the burger for a beach-day lunch. Save room for fresh shellfish and a chilled glass of rosé; vegetarians are well looked after too.
Insider Tip
Galleon Beach has no road access for visitors ΓÇö the easiest way in is the $10 round-trip water taxi that leaves from the Nelson's Dockyard dinghy dock roughly every 15 minutes. Book a cabana in advance during high season (DecΓÇôApr) and time your visit so you're on the sand for the golden hour before catching the last boat back around sunset.
