Jolly Beach Resort & Spa: Antigua's Beachfront Budget All-Inclusive
A mile of powdery sand, three restaurants, and a laid-back Caribbean vibe on Antigua's southwest coast.
Why Go
Sprawled along one of Antigua's longest and most photogenic beaches, Jolly Beach Resort & Spa is the island's go-to all-inclusive for travelers who want their toes in the sand without the price tag of the fancier resorts up the coast. Reopened in 2023 under Elite Islands management, it trades polished luxury for genuine Caribbean ease, generous portions, and one of the best sunset views on the island.
The Experience
The heart of the resort is that mile-long crescent of white sand fronting the calm, turquoise waters of Jolly Bay - protected enough for easy swimming, wide enough that you can always find a quiet stretch of loungers. Days here drift between the two freshwater pools (one with a waterfall), the swim-up bar, and non-motorized watersports like kayaks, paddleboards, and Hobie Cats included in the rate. The property leans social rather than sceney: expect steel-pan bands at sunset, buffet lunches under thatched roofs, and a mix of European sun-seekers, Canadian snowbirds, and families making the most of the kids' club. Rooms are basic and the decor is unmistakably 1990s, but nobody comes to Jolly Beach to hide in their room - you come for the beach, the price, and that unbeatable west-facing horizon.
What to Try
Grab a rum punch at the beach bar and stake out a spot on the sand for sunset - the west-facing bay delivers one of Antigua's most reliable golden hours. Book a spa treatment in the open-air cabanas, then hit the à la carte Italian or Caribbean restaurant for dinner (reservations recommended, and worth the walk from the buffet). During the day, take out a kayak toward the rocky headland at the north end of the beach for calm-water snorkeling.
Insider Tip
Ask at the tour desk about combining a half-day with Adventure Antigua's Xtreme Circumnavigation boat trip - they'll pick up from Jolly Harbour marina just next door, so you skip the long transfer from other resorts. Also: rooms in Buildings 3 and 4 are closest to the beach and have been most recently refreshed; specifically request a 'beachfront' or 'ocean view' category rather than 'garden view' when you book, as the garden-view rooms sit well back from the water.
The Practical Stuff
Located in Bolans, Saint Mary Parish, about a 30-minute drive from V.C. Bird International Airport and 20 minutes from St. John's. All-inclusive rates cover meals at three restaurants, drinks (including branded spirits), non-motorized watersports, tennis, and the kids' club. Wi-Fi is free in public areas. The resort is walking distance to Jolly Harbour Marina's shops, casino, and additional restaurants if you want a break from resort food. Cash tipping is appreciated but not required. Peak season runs December through April; the resort is open year-round.
Pair It With
- Adventure Antigua — The island's original locally-owned boat tour operator runs excellent day trips - including the famous Xtreme Circumnavigation - with pickups right at neighboring Jolly Harbour Marina, making it the easiest excursion add-on from the resort.
- Boardwalk Casino — A short walk or quick shuttle away in Jolly Harbour, it's the closest evening entertainment beyond the resort's own bars - handy for a change of scene without needing a taxi to St. John's.
- Antigua +39 Tour — Italian-speaking guided island tours that pair well with a beach-based stay when you want a full-day cultural and scenic break from the resort.
