Reachable only by a bumpy 15-minute drive through the bush from Jolly Harbour, Hermitage Bay feels less like a hotel and more like a private island that happens to have staff who remember how you take your rum punch. This is the Antigua the cruise crowd never sees: no roads humming past your suite, no swim-up bar chaos, just the hush of trade winds through the mangroves and the clink of ice at sundown.
The Experience
Days here run on a soft, self-directed rhythm. Mornings start with a barefoot walk down the sandy path from your hillside cottage or beachfront suite to the open-air pavilion, where breakfast is à la carte (nothing about this place is buffet). By 10 a.m. the beach loungers along the bay's palm-fringed curve are dotted with couples reading, and the paddleboards and Hobie Cats are free to grab. The single beach — protected, west-facing, and often glassy — is the whole social spine of the resort. Sunsets here are a genuine event: guests drift toward the beach bar around 6 p.m. for cocktails hand-mixed with local Cavalier rum, then wander to dinner in the pavilion or the more intimate Beach Restaurant, where the menu leans on the day's catch and produce from the resort's own garden.
