Bonaire has some twenty named beaches, but a parent can rule out a third of them immediately. Everything inside Washington Slagbaai National Park at the northern tip — Boka Kokolishi, Playa Chikitu, Playa Benge — is either unswimmable rip-tide territory or aimed at experienced divers, and the cliff beaches like 1000 Steps and Bachelor's mean carrying a toddler and a cooler down stone stairs. What works with children clusters in two zones: the calm leeward strip between Flamingo Airport and Kralendijk, and Lac Bay on the east coast, where a reef across the bay mouth keeps the water about a metre deep.
The real choice is free public sand versus resort facilities. Te Amo, Windsock and Donkey Beach cost nothing and fill with local families on Sundays; Chogogo and Eden Beach add pools, loungers and food a few steps from the towels. Check entry conditions too — much of the leeward coast is coral rubble underfoot, so the handful of beaches with smooth sandy entries matter more here than anywhere.
